What is the Thrive Approach?
The Thrive Approach is rooted in attachment theory, neuroscience, and child development research. It provides a framework for understanding what children need at each stage of their emotional development, and how adults can best support those needs.
Thrive helps practitioners recognise when a child is stuck or struggling at a particular developmental stage — and how to respond in ways that help them to move forward, rather than escalating or withdrawing.
The Thrive organisation trains and accredits practitioners across the UK. Every member of our team at Tuition Extra is Thrive trained — this is a requirement, not an option.

Seeing the whole child
We look at emotional development alongside academic progress. Where a child is developmentally shapes how we approach every session.
Relationship first
Thrive holds that learning happens best within a relationship of trust. We invest time in getting to know each child before anything else.
Responding, not reacting
When a child shows distress or challenging behaviour, our team responds calmly and with understanding rather than reacting punitively.
Evidenced and reviewed
Thrive provides assessment tools that help us understand each child's emotional baseline and track their development over time.
Our Thrive Leader
Amanda Thompson is our Group Thrive Leader, responsible for overseeing Thrive practice across all Tuition Extra provision and ensuring every team member is trained and supported.
Amanda works with staff on embedding Thrive into their daily practice, and contributes to the emotional development planning for individual children placed with us.
