Meeting your child where they are.
For children who find school attendance emotionally overwhelming, we offer gentle, trust-based support that begins at their pace and grows with their confidence.
When school feels impossible
Emotionally-based school avoidance (EBSA) is real, and it is more common than many families realise. Children who struggle with attendance are often anxious, overwhelmed, or experiencing something that feels too big to name.
We approach this with patience and understanding. Our team is trained in the Thrive approach, which means we start with the relationship — building trust before anything else.
Sessions can begin at home, in a neutral venue, or at a Tuition Extra centre. We work at whatever pace helps your child feel safe.
Speak to the team →Relationship first
Every programme begins with relationship-building. The tutor and child spend time getting to know each other, with zero pressure to perform.
Gradual reintegration
We work towards the goals you and your child set together — whether that is returning to school, managing transitions, or building daily confidence.
Family partnership
Parents and carers are kept closely involved. We share updates regularly and work together on strategies that carry over into home life.
Our environments help, too
Our learning environments are chosen with anxious learners in mind. Haven Nook offers a low-stimulus, sensory-aware space. Maypole Farm provides open air, animals, and natural calm. Canterbury Centre offers structure and consistency.
Many children who struggled to settle elsewhere find a sense of belonging with us.
